On September 14 and 15, a conference of the Council of the European Union of Private Hospitals was held in Warsaw, organized by the Polish-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce. The Association of Private Medical Institutions of Ukraine was represented at the conference by Tatyana Lakiza, director and owner of the dental center “Medgarant”. This is the annual meeting of the European Union of Private Hospitals, where delegations from all over Europe were represented. This year the topics covered the potential and subsidy sector of private hospitals in Poland and Europe. One of the important aspects of the conference was to discuss the use of the potential of private medicine during the war and in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine's healthcare system. Here are some abstracts from the conference: In almost all countries, payment for services consists of payments of insurance companies (both public and private) + surcharge with the patient's funds. This does not apply to the rehabilitation system and the so-called “Houses of Seniors” — here 100% of the payment is made by patients. Almost all countries experience a shortage of medical personnel: both doctors and average medical personnel. In Romania, 70% of payments are paid by the state insurance company and 30% are paid by patients. Since 2019, all patients can pay surcharges, there is no limit, but the surcharge must have an economic basis (doctors' salaries, payment for materials, electricity, etc.). In 2022, Romania launched the European Private Hospitals Awards project, to which hospitals submit their projects-presentations. Initially, 10 hospitals sent applications for participation, but by the end of the deadline for accepting applications, there were already 70 participants. In July 2023, the competition was held for the second time and 87 participating hospitals submitted applications. The European Union of Private Hospitals is a powerful and influential organization. The Polish Association of Private Hospitals under President Andrzej Sokolowski is an open and significant structure in medicine, so we look forward to cooperation in various directions.
